My Ecological Footprint

The 11thhour

First, “we are different from the nature, we don’t need to nature” stated in the video show that we as human want power to control everything. As scientist show that we evolute from ape, one thing that we are different to the nature is that we think about the future, such as how to impove our quility of life. We also think we are the top of the food chain, but when we really think about it, we do need the nature and we depend on the nature in order to keep us survive, such as the tree change carbon dioxdie to oxygen.

In the video , it says that “after the industry revolution , nature become resourse” which is very true. We have been keep mass production, By doing so, we cause the global warming effect. Because there is too many of as using too many resourse too fast , the global warming came quicker and worster then a lot of scientist.

Also, it mention that “Under the law, you are either a properties or person, and the nature is properties”. Nowaday, we as human treat the nature as properties, which mean we can sell it, buy it and trade it. Because we want ownership of a certain area of the nature, we are causing fifteen thousand spiece of habbitat extin every year. So the a long term, it only affect us because the food chain relay on everybody, when a spiece is missing from a food chain, it will cause iver number of an other spiece, and because if that the large amount of them competing with a limit of resource, they soon will extin. This theory also work for us as well as we are also a part of the food chain.

Objectified

When you see an object, you will have many assumptions in a few second such as, what did it do? How does it work? How do you use it? How much it cost? How heavy it is? It says in the video that design is a search for form, it is really true because the object say be able to tell its function through their appearance. It can to done by adding different design element to the appearance, such as curve, grip, sign or symbol.

Furthermore, “each object should be able to tell a story”, an example is the toothpick which was original from Japan where the back of the toothpick can be serrate. It has two meaning, one is that the toothpick is already used and the other is that it acts as a rest for the toothpick, which related back to their culture content and ritual.

The video also point out that “the big issues of design are the thing really making affect and making change”. One example is a chair. When you sit on it, you feels that the chair is uncomfortable. The object should meet people need that perform well in function and it special in their lives. If you have a design that is precious that you really love, you will never going to throw that design away. This is important because if the object is uncomfortable or does not suit its properties, then the object would properly end up into landfill, which mean it have a very short life cycle.

The video also tell a interesting method for when we are designing, which is the mind map. It is a map where they go further and further, each factor with relate to another factor as it branch out. At the end, there should be new ground, where object could be made to suit people needs.
